Crash
“Goodbye Jane” Liam embraces Jane one last time as she cries. Surrounding them is a crowd of people, which feels like millions of eyes staring at them as they wait by the boarding train. He kisses her forehead and begins to pull aways.
“How do I know I’ll see you again?” Jane sniffles pulling him in tighter.
“I wish I had that answer” he whispers leaning down to kiss Janes stomach “Don’t give your mom too much trouble at birth” He begins to cry “I'll miss you so much”
“I’ll miss you too, please com back to me Liam, come back to your son” Jane cries along side him until Liam has to board. She holds his hand until she can’t anymore. “Goodbye my love” She shouts after him as the train starts to pull away.
“Goodbye Jane! I will do everything I can to come home to you I promise” He shouts back.
The world is at war with each other so Liam might have made empty promises. Months go by and that is exactly what has happened. Jane hears a knock on her door, she has her two month old son in her arms as she opens the door. She sees a man in uniform give her a letter. Jane is half expecting it to be a letter from Liam, but she knows that letters from him were never so formal. She knew what to expect when she opens the letter reading that Liam is declared missing in action. Jane lets out a loud sob that even the man who handed her the letter who by now is half way down the driveway could hear her sobs. She cries for days. She has no family in New Jersey, she left them to be with Liam. She is completely alone, and doesn’t know what she should do next.
Liams disappearance turns into months than two years pass until he is finally declared dead even without ever finding his body. They hold a military funeral for Liam, with an empty coffin. Jane moves back in with her mother and father until she can navigate her world crashing down on her.
Good Things Fall Apart
In a blink of an eye thats when everything begins to fall apart. When you finally grasp that career you’ve been trying so diligently to get and then it falls apart. When you met this girl you know you are going to marry and then that falls apart too. You’re house slips aways from you, and you’re living on the streets. I can’t hold on to any of the good things in my life. Everything I do falls apart. How can I keep living this cursed life? I wish I had an answer for all my questions but I don't even know how to begin.
Tight Grip
Took me eighty-three years to figure out that life is a never ending chase for happiness. At the end your life you take into count everything you did to try and reach that happiness, but it was always a grip away. I had a high paying salary. With all that money I consumed I continuously bought things I didn’t need, and in no way benefitted me. I slept around with more women than I can count thinking it would make me happy. However, it did nothing but make me feel worthless, unloved, and used… I was able to travel the world using my private jet, I visited all the historical sites, all the bars, all the resorts. There was so mush I did to reach happiness but nothing seemed to work.
I lived a life many people would consider a happy one. However, it took me eighty-three years to realize that none of those things made me truly happy. Sure, I was happy in the moment that those things took place but when I woke up the next day the cycle had ended and I began the chase again. When will this endless pursuit of happiness end?
I am a eighty-three year old man dying alone in a dull little hospital room. If I had children they wouldn’t come because they wouldn’t be able to stand the looks of me. Im disgusting, I pursued a happiness that doesn’t exist in material things, I forgot about those around me. It took my eighty-three years and dying alone in a hospital to make me realize life was suppose to be more.
This grip on life is fleeting, I know I could be dead any day or hour. My only question now is “can I still find happiness?” Maybe realizing my faults is the only solution I have left.
In walks my nurse, she checks my vitasl and gives me my medicine every hour. It's exhausting for her I assume taking care of an old selfish man like me, yet everyday she is the one who takes care of me. Come to think of it, this is this first time in eighty-three years that someone has shown me kindness, she has done more for me in my last few days on earth than anyone has. So this is what I'll grip, this kindness that is shown to me is the only thing in my worthless life that makes me truly happy. Being loved and cared for by a complete stranger. I'll tightly grip this feeling until my last breath is taken.
Why do you look like that?
Libby pack her books up for class before the bell rings so as soon as it does she can rush out and make it to her next class in time, but more importantly before the crowd rushes into the halls with her. As soon as it rings she is the first one out, but she isn't quick enough. The older kids were right in front speedily walking towards her.
“Ew” one of the girls named Kimberly says looking her up and down. Ashley pushes her into the lockers “oops I didn’t see you there” she snickers. “Oh my goodness, what are you wearing?” Teagan snaps. “Yeah, why do you look like that?” Amber criticizes.
The four girls walk away laughing at Libby as she lies there on the ground in front of the lockers trying to hold back the hot tears forming. There’s no time to waste though, she put herself back together and storms off into the bathroom before anyone else could notice her. She makes sure no one is in the bathroom with her and then lets out a loud sob. Libby is a sophomore in high school and ever since freshman year she’s been bullied and named called. She’s tried everything to fit in, yet all her attempts has only made her more noticeable and more laughed at. The bell for the next class rings but Libby chooses not to leave the quietness of the bathroom, she can’t be made fun of if there is no one around. She walks over to the mirror to look at her reflection. Her eyes are rather beautiful, the green knitted sweater from her great grandmother brightens them up even more. Her face is square, she has pink and brown glasses sitting neatly on her nose that is now red and runny from the all the crying she has done that day. Libby has been fed lies because of that she doesn’t see a beautiful young women, as her mother always says, she sees a hideous girl full of blemishes with an awkward, skinny form. Every attempt she makes to look beautiful fails, and she only gets laughed at more for trying. Libby hides herself away until the bells rings again symbolizing the end of another class. Slowly peering her head out of the bathroom door she sees that the coast is clear and walks swiftly down the hallway so she doesn’t miss another class. As she walks she looks down at her feet and all of a sudden bangs into someone. Immediately realizing she could be in a lot of trouble depending who it is she just ran into.
“Whoa there!” A boy exclaims.
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to run into you, please don’t get mad” Libby looks up to the 6’1 boy whose hair is a shaggy brown mess, He holds himself confidently, and looks kind, so Libby feels more at ease.
The boy smiles “mad? Why would I be mad, it was an accident”
“No one likes me, that’s probably why I assumed you’d be mad” she speaks softly
“Well I’m glad I ran into you before having their stupid preconceived idea, I’m Nick”
She laughs and smiles gently “ I’m Libby” she shakes his extended hand.
“Well its nice to meet you Libby, I’m new here, could you walk me to my next class?”
Libby nods without saying much as they walk next to each other. Everyday after that Nick always walks Libby to her classes. He said it is to protect her from the mean girls but as time goes on he begins to really fall in love. The winter dance is coming up soon so nick asks Libby if she wants to be his date, after tons of convincing she reluctantly said yes. The night of the dance Nick greets her in her house. Libby is wearing a straight wine red dress that reaches the floor. It is rather simple, she spiced it up a bit with gold jewelry, and her hair is in a low braid bun with strands of hair to frame her face. She wears very little makeup, and she has on her navy blue Vans. Nick is taken back, he didn’t realize she could become more beautiful. Pictures are taken by her parents and then they leave. Libby teases him the whole way to school while Nick smiles and laughs with her.
Once they arrive at the school Nick opens her door and asks “why do you look like that?”
Immediately she thinks of the girls who would make fun of her “What do you mean?” She sadly stutters.
“You’re absolutely beautiful Libby” He tells her sincerely and for the first time ever Libby believes those words are true.
Throwing Manure
You get what you dish and for chris it couldn’t be anymore true. Chris grew up in a wealthy household, he got whatever his parents money could buy and that was practically everything he wanted. If there was something his parents could not afford you would hear chris scream at the top of his lungs until his parents figure out away to give it to him. Now that Chris has grown up he is a selfish man, he bribes people into doing what he wants, he acts like he owns every place he walks into, yet he thinks there is nothing wrong with his character. However, everyone around him sees who he really is but they are too scared of him.
“Excuse me” chris snarks as he walks past the fellow people who are standing in front of him in line. Everyone rolls their eyes in disgust with his actions but they refuse to do anything about it. “Hey missy, get me my usual” he demands the barista at the register.
“Um… you can’t just budge a whole line of people sir” she says with irritation
“Um yeah I can, miss…” Chris looks down at the barista’s name tag “miss Lindsay. What are you? A new kid here? Everyone know I get what I want when I want it. Do you have any idea how much power I have? I could easily make your life at this little rinky-dinky coffee shop a living hell, now get me my damn coffee” Chris was almost screaming at the poor teenager.
“Im sorry” Lindsay stutters “what is it that you would like?”
“Forget it, give me someone who actually knows what they are doing here” Chris shouts leaning over the counter looking for someone else to ‘save’ him.
“I’m sorry, I’m the only one here as of right now. My manager had a family crisis this morning so they called to ask if I would be comfortable opening when I told them…”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah I don’t really care.” He cuts her off. “Just get me a large Carmel macchiato, spicy bagel with cream cheese, and a yogurt parfait. Also I hope this is on the house since you caused me so much trouble” Chris speaks annoyingly.
After waiting what seems like forever, Chris is finally getting his drink and food without paying for them. “I let you off easy not complaining to a manager. Don’t ever let this happen again, you wasted my time, and because of you I'll be late to work” Chris storms out of the little coffee shop and throws himself in his 2020 Porsche to drive to work.
He walks into the work building greeting everyone he passes with a fake hello and smile. He also demands everyone out of the elevator, his excuse was that he had to have a ‘rough’ morning and he needs to go up alone, of course they all oblige. Chris gets up to the 11th floor, and when he walks out of the elevator his boss’ boss is walking toward him. “Dylan! to what do I owe this pleasure?” There’s only one man he’s scared of and thats Dylan.
“Lets talk in your office shall we?” Dylan swiftly speaks pointing to the direction of his office.
With a big gulp Chris nods and takes lead “this way.”
Dylan shuts Chris' office door behind them, “I’m not going to beat around the bush with you. Chris I like you, I really do, but we take these things seriously and can’t afford a lawsuit.”
“I’m sorry I don’t understand.” Chris interjects.
“You’re fired.”
“What why? I’ve been with this company for over 15 years! You can’t do that” Chris shouts.
“Well its not my fault it’s yours, theres a lawsuit against you, eighteen women complaining about sexual harassment and they want to press charges. We can’t afford you to take us down with you.” Dylan says like he doesn’t care.
After fighting it for 10 minuets Dylan just walks out of the office. Chris begins packing up his stuff into boxes and as he’s heading toward the elevator to go back down to the lobby the whole 11th floor claps and cheers that he is leaving. “You all shut up!” He shouts over the cheering but he only made it grow louder.
The lawsuit lasted six months and when it was all over he had lost almost all of his money. He had to sell his mansion, and all seven of his sports cars. Every place he went to look for a job he got shot down, because of his lawsuit but mostly because every place knew he was a terrible person who never treated anyone with respect. The only job he could land was on a farm, fertilizing the field by throwing manure.
