Asking Her Out

It’s a clique to think or say that she was the most beautiful women he had ever seen. However, William was an introvert who never got out much so it was the truth to say, she was. It was seven in the morning, William spent the last hour shoveling the blankets of snow off his driveway. Despite the cold William was drenched in his own sweat, and the snow that melted on the trim of his pant legs. He’s not used to the kind of weather Minnesota has to offer, he spent his entire life living in Florida until one day his job decided to move him. After shovel out in the cold for an hour he needed a quick energy boost, despite being religiously against coffee shops because it’s cheaper to make it yourself, he was too exhausted to put in the effort. He figured he’ll grab coffee then come home to change out of his dirty, smelly clothes. He though that it being seven in the morning no one would take notice of his sloppy attire. of course, that was when he saw Charlotte, she was taking orders at the front of the rather busy coffee shop. Charlotte was wearing a white long sleeve button up, and dark blue jeans, with a half apron around her waist. Her strawberry blonde hair was pulled back into a high ponytail but a few strands were left out to frame her face, her glasses were pulled down at the tip of her nose so she could see as she write down customers orders. William began to shut down as the line became shorter and he was next. As he got closer he noticed she has very faint freckles running across her nose, and that her eye color features a hint of green creating that sandy color tone. She was absolutely beautiful, and William came into her store looking like he just rolled out of bed and hadn’t showered in a week. Her rosy lips curled up as she spoke, “good morning! What can I get you?” Stuttering William agreed to get one of her favorites, he couldn’t think on his own, since he was in a dream state.

Months have gone by and now William had become a regular. He came so often just to drink coffee and stare at Charlotte that he wad able figured out her work schedule. William is a nice guy, he couldn’t even hurt a fly so the observing her was harmless, he was just so shy and insecure he never wanted to make a fool of himself by actually having a conversation with her. Everyday he would go into the coffee shop to watch her, he studied her the way she would talk and laugh with her co-workers, she was genuine. Her smile was sweet when she greeted him, and she started to take note in William as well. After the first two weeks of William going to get coffee, she would have his order ready. They wouldn’t say much to one another just a simple “good morning”, and “have a nice day” but every time he would smile back like a little school girl blushing entirely. He couldn’t help falling in love with her more and more everyday. He barley said three words to her but he feel like he still knew her enough. As he was staring at her she looked over and smiled, and all of a sudden she took off her apron and started talking over to him. Immediately he looks down pretending not to notice.

“Can I sit here?” She smiles and points to the chair across him. Not knowing what say afraid he’ll make a fool of himself nods. “You aren’t very sneaky, you know. I see you come in her everyday staring at me, why’s that?”

“Uh… I don’t know.” He says embarrassed.

She laughs at him, “after about two weeks of you coming in I kind of figured you all out. You’re either two shy or insecure to say much to me at all but someone has a crush, right”

“Well I wasn’t going to come out and say that to you, beside crush? Doesn’t that sound a bit middle school to you?”

She blushed back at him “maybe it does, but it doesn’t change any of the facts. You could have at least told me your name.”

“oh right, it’s William.”

“Charlotte, but I’m sure you already knew that.” She flirts. All of a sudden the coffee shop doors flew open and in stomps a tall man with dark feature, he was quite handsome for his late thirties. He makes direct contact with Charlotte and he face goes pale.

“Oh so now we’re taking to other men huh? It literally been 4 months since the divorce don’t you think it’s a little fast to be moving on” The man hollered at Charlotte. “I came in her to check up on ya maybe because I still care and you’re just rubbing it in my face!’

“oh don’t give me that crap John!” Charlotte stood up walking over to him “don’t start a scene at my workplace, don’t get me fired.”

John threw his hand up “maybe you shouldn’t be doing this crap then Lottie. I knew you were worthless, you don’t care about anyone but yourself!”

“John, can we please go outside. You’re embarrassing me” William watched the whole thing continue to unfold, he thought her knew a lot about her but it turns out he missed a pretty big part. William was starting to get mad, that this man would storm into Charlotte’s workplace to embarrass her.

“Outside? Why’s that don’t want your little boyfriend to see this?” John continues to yell as Charlotte tugs on his arm to get him outside.

This is when William stood up and something overcame him. “Why don’t you just get out of here and mind your own business?” He shouts over John. John took his attention off of Charlotte and started to storm towards him.

“Me? You mind you own damn business”  John lifted his fists like he was about to throw a punch when William catches his fist and tossed him back.

“I wouldn’t do that John.” William threatened.

John rolls his eyes “you think your so tough? Stop talking to my wife” he pointed harshly at William as he began to walk out the door.

The interruption shocked many guest and they were all staring at Charlotte, she whispered I’m sorry and walked to the back of the store and began to cry. Despite not being a worker, William followed her to the back and sat down where she was crying. “Im so embarrassed, please just go away William.” She sniffled.

“hey, now don’t be embraced, I don’t look at you any differently Charlotte. “Do you want to get out of here? You’re almost off.”

She smiles and laugh, “oh you would know. Yes, I think that’ll take my mind off things.

That evening they went out to dinner and talked all night. William was finally able to have to confidence to ask her out because of the incident with her ex-husband, just like she had been waiting for.
