My Deepest Dreads and Dreams

The water has been running hot for the past hour and Willow can’t contain her tears, as they burn like acid rolling down her checks. She sits on the floor of the shower wearing nothing but her favorite grey sweatpants, which she didn’t even have the motivation to take off. She tugged at the drawstrings around her waist, trying to distract her mind with anything but him, Trevor. He is all she can think about. Today he had replaced his routine good morning text with a inconsiderate breakup text. Now he won’t respond to the several messages she had sent asking him why. Maybe this is all a dream; how could he do this to her? She moved to a different state following him to a nearby college. She left her entire life back at home to make sure their relationship wouldn’t suffer the distance. Now her efforts were for nothing; there is no point anymore.

Her roommate, Ashlyn, calls for her from behind the bathroom door, “Hey, is everything okay?”

Willow’s voice is barely audible from inside the shower; she says she’s fine but wants to be left alone. Her roommate reminds her that she is going home for the weekend to visit her boyfriend, at least she still has one, Willow thinks. “Okay” is all Willow can muster as she turns the shower off. She stares at the unopened pregnancy test box she had bought several days prior. She was scared to pee on the stick before but now she’s terrified. She lets those thoughts pass and faces her fear. She waits the recommended time in order for the test to tell. Maybe this will make him want me, she thinks as she stares at the positive markings on the stick.

Letter to Trevor:

Trevor,

I don’t understand how you could just end our relationship so abruptly. I’ve never been as hurt and confused as I am right now. We had such an amazing two years together; we were so happy. I will never forget any of our amazing memories. I am sending this letter in hopes of getting the answers and closure I deserve, since you won’t return any of my calls or respond to any of my texts. I also had to tell you one more thing. I am pregnant; and yes, it’s yours.
